Jessica Regnier - Commercial Marketing New Grad

I began working for Shell Canada Ltd. in January of 2006. I had recently graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Finance and Marketing. I was hired as a Commercial Marketing New Grad and moved to Calgary leaving behind my friends and family. Although I was nervous, I was excited at the opportunity with Shell, and still am to this day.

My time with Shell so far has definitely been an adventure. I began my role with a brief assignment at a local retail station. My goal was to get a better understanding of our road transport sector as I worked right along with the employees and managers doing the day-to-day activities. I then spent some time at the Shell AeroCentre, obtaining a better idea of our aviation business. I worked the front desk, rode along on as they moved the planes and had the full tour. I learned a great deal and had a lot of fun on both visits!

Back in head office I began working as an Agency Customer Service Representative. This role was very busy and quite challenging at times. I had to learn quickly how we managed our customers, what expectations they had and how to deliver on them. It was a great seven months, which ended with a trip to Thunder Bay and Kenora to meet the agents, and discuss ways to improve our joint processes. I enjoyed the trip and my visit there resulted in several recommendations for future improvements.

Later I moved on to Commercial Price Administration. There I was able to play a role in day-to-day activities, along with a major project. I was involved in our Tellus and Tellus T re-launch and created a competitive pricing tool for examining our position in the marketplace. It was a great learning experience and I gained a great deal of confidence in my ability to put forth ideas and recommendations.

I now work in Distribution West, where I help to assure our carriers are paid and our business runs smoothly. So far it has been a great experience, with great people. Having worked in many areas of Shell I can safely say I have been extremely impressed and motivated by the people around me.

 I have made many life long friends here and Calgary has welcomed me with open arms. I am extremely happy with my choice to come to Shell and I hope others will see the value and many opportunities Shell has to offer.
