Joyce Ma - Accounts Payable Co-op
The work has been challenging but also very rewarding. I have enjoyed working with such a warm and welcoming group.
I was initially drawn to Shell because of its commitment to the community. On Shell’s Day of Caring, I volunteered with my department at the local YWCA. We painted classrooms and washed windows. This was a great opportunity to get to know my co-workers in a different environment while giving back to the community.
Shell places a huge emphasis on training and development of its employees. During my term, I took several courses to learn more about the tools specific to my department. As well, I was given the opportunity to tour the Caroline Gas plant with other Business Co-op students and learn all about the oil drilling process. This has broadened my knowledge of other departments in Shell, as well as the oil and gas industry in general. During my work co-op term, my responsibilities included processing payment for the WASO desk and assisting with duplicate reports and AP Stats.
From my personal experience, I can say that Shell is a great place to start your career. The corporate culture is friendly and supportive and spans all areas and levels of the company. This made the transition from school to work extremely easy. Furthermore, Shell stresses the work-life balance by offering benefits such as flex days and membership to the Shell Active Living Centre. My experience here has been truly exceptional.
