My first work term with Shell was at the Sarnia Refinery during my third year as a Chemical Engineering student at the University of Waterloo and I returned in my final four-month co-op term at the Scotford Upgrader in Edmonton.
My choice to work for Shell has proven to be worthwhile. The great thing about Shell is that it is such a dynamic and progressive company with exemplary governing values and commitments. Shell offers exposure to a variety of unique and diverse opportunities within the same job role, location, as well as opportunities abroad. Shell’s commitment to sustainable development and work-life balance is definitely evident throughout the company.
Some of the projects I have been fortunate enough to work on include: a major refinery turnaround, optimizing the de-isohexanizer column, LP modeling, a site-wide energy study to improve energy efficiency, and evaluating water hammer in excess steam condensers. I have also received plenty of training in-house and out of town. I even had the chance to go to Houston for a technical training course.
I would highly recommend Shell to anyone. It is a great place to gain technical and hands-on experience, as well as meet great people!
