Shell named again as one of Canada´s Top 100 Employers

08 Oct 2009

Shell has been named one of Canada's top 100 employers for the ninth year in a row, adding to the appeal the company holds for prospective new hires.

“It is an extraordinary accomplishment to receive this level of recognition for nine consecutive years,” says Cary Wilkins, Regional Manager Recruitment, Americas.

“It is a reflection of the outstanding market-facing work delivered by Recruitment, and of all the employees in Canada who have helped shape an attractive corporate culture and build a strong reputation for Shell as an employer of choice.”

“This recognition supports our focus on attracting, recruiting and retaining top talent. It informs potential candidates that Shell is a top-rated company, and it reinforces with employees the strong ethics, standards, benefits and culture that distinguishes us from competitors.”

The ranking is conducted by Mediacorp Canada, the nation's largest publisher of employment guides and job-hunting periodicals. Now in its tenth year, the report continues to gain awareness and prestige with over 4,000 submissions being received from employers across the country. However, applying for the award is no easy task. Employers must complete an extensive application process that includes a detailed review of their operations, policies and human resources practices.

“To complete what was a very thorough response required Recruitment to join up with subject matter experts from many different areas of the company to collect accurate information for our submission,” says Wilkins. “It was a real cross-functional, team effort.”

In particular, employers submitted information in eight key areas:
(1) physical workplace
(2) work atmosphere & social activities
(3) health, financial & family benefits
(4) vacation & time off
(5) employee communications
(6) performance management
(7) training & skills development
(8) community involvement

These criteria have remained consistent throughout all ten editions of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project.

National winners were announced in special editorial features published by Maclean's, The Globe and Mail and Eluta.ca, the popular job search engine, on October 8-9, 2009.
