Upstream in Canada
Shell's Upstream businesses explore for and extract crude oil and natural gas and markets and trades natural gas and power. Upstream also includes our Heavy Oil operations such as the Athabasca Oil Sands Project in Alberta, western Canada. Here, bitumen is extracted from oil sands and converted into synthetic crudes. Another Upstream activity is our Carbon Capture and Storage project, Quest.
