The TREE Fund was created by Shell Canada and Mancal Energy for local ecological restoration or enhancement projects in the Tay River area and surrounding region. The Tay River area is located west of Rocky Mountain House within the Clearwater Country.
The TREE Fund Steering Committee, a subgroup of Tay River Advisory Committee (TRAC), has been formed to manage the TREE Fund project application and approval process. TRAC is a multi-stakeholder group and includes representatives from Shell Canada, Mancal Energy, the local community (trappers, hunters, ranchers, recreational users), special interest groups, industry and government. The TREE Fund Steering Committee is currently made up of representatives from Shell and TRAC.
Projects funded to date include a variety of local trail restoration and enhancement projects, grizzly bear habitat enhancement, and ungulate winter range restoration.
Similarly, the MMEE Fund was created by Shell Canada and Husky Energy for local ecological restoration, enhancement or protection projects in the Moose Mountain area and surrounding region. The Moose Mountain area is located west of Bragg Creek within Kananaskis Country.
A MMEE Fund Advisory Committee has been formed to manage the Fund including the application and approval process. The Committee is made up of representatives from Shell Energy, Husky Energy and the Bragg Creek Environmental Coalition (a local environmental non-government organization).
Projects funded to date include a riparian habitat assessment, trail restoration and enhancement, protection of bull trout habitat, and grizzly bear habitat enhancement.
