Shell V-Power™, Silver and Bronze Gasolines
Gasoline is a clear, yellowish liquid with a well-known odour. It is shipped either by pipeline or vessel between a refinery and tank depots, and then by tank truck to bulk agents or service stations. Gasoline is stored in liquid form and is highly flammable. Special Shell additives are added to Shell V-Power which is distributed by tank trucks to bulk agents or service stations along with Shell Silver or Bronze gasolines.
Health Effects
Prolonged exposure to gasoline vapours can cause headache, dizziness and nausea. Gasoline vapours are moderately irritating to eyes and respiratory passages. The allowable workplace exposure limit in Canada is 300 parts per million (ppm). Gasoline can be smelled at concentrations above .25 ppm in air. Gasoline liquid when breathed into the lung can cause severe inflammation of the lung. Prolonged and repeated contact with gasoline liquid will dry the skin.
Environmental Effects
Gasoline may be harmful to aquatic life. It is slowly biodegradable, but may stay on ground or in the air for a long time. Gasoline affects farm animals, pets and wildlife in a similar manner to how it affects humans.
