Our current production comes from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and also from offshore Nova Scotia, where we are a partner in the Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP).
In 2010, Shell produced approximately 510 million cubic feet per day of WCSB natural gas through Shell-owned and third-party gas plants in western Canada.
The end uses of natural gas affect our everyday lives. This includes fuel for factory and production plant equipment, as well as household stoves and furnaces.
Natural gas deposits exist off the east coast of mainland Nova Scotia and the Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP) is the first project to deliver gas to the Maritimes and northeastern United States. The offshore assets of the Sable Project are owned by ExxonMobil Canada (50.8%), Shell Canada (31.3%), Imperial Oil Resources (9%), Pengrowth Corporation (8.4%) and Mosbacher Operating Ltd. (0.5%). The end markets for Sable natural gas are Eastern Canada and the North-Eastern US.
The Mackenzie Gas Project is a natural gas pipeline system along the Mackenzie Valley of Canada's Northwest Territories. The proposed 1220-kilometre pipeline will connect northern onshore gas fields with North American markets.
