The beauty of FuellingChange is that is allows customers to select the environmental projects that Shell Canada funds. FuellingChange is part of the process of being proactive and listening to our customers and I’d like to thank them for voting.

Launched in 2010, FuellingChange invites customers who make any purchases at Shell service stations to vote for pre-selected environmental projects using a code from Shell purchase receipts. To date, 2.9 million votes have been cast by customers.

Environmental projects pre-selected to participate in the FuellingChange program are eligible to receive funding at three different grant levels: $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000. In addition, those organizations not successful in the voting process receive $10,000 for their project. A total of 54 projects will receive funding, totalling $1 million.

Two Canadian organizations, Alberta Conservation Association and Friends of the St. Clair River, will receive grants at the $100,000 level from the program. President of Friends of the St. Clair River, Darrell Randell, says: “Winning this Shell grant really accelerates our program to restore and protect the natural habitats in the area. The funding will be matched by conservation partners and individual landowners and have benefit to many projects.

FuellingChange inspired a great many people to support our efforts and made them aware of the goals surrounding the St. Clair River. I see that as an additional benefit.”

Wildlife Biologist for the Alberta Conservation Association, Robert Anderson, says “the support we received through FuellingChange for the Wolverine project has been amazing. It suggests to me that Canadians want a say in the wild areas and species that are conserved for future generations. Winning the FuellingChange grant means we can buy remote camera equipment and pay for the analysis of DNA samples, which is critical to making this citizen science initiative a success.”
