May 25, 2017
Michael Crothers, Shell Canada President and Country Chair, comments on the Government of Canada’s proposed oil and gas methane regulations.
Shell Canada President and Country Chair Michael Crothers provided the following statement in response to the Government of Canada’s release of its draft oil and gas methane regulations:
“We are pleased with steps the federal government is taking to reduce methane emissions and air pollution. Shell Canada supports controls on methane emissions and has had voluntary leak detection and repair, and preventative maintenance programs in place for many years in our Alberta and BC gas production operations.
“We are working with environmental groups and industry peers to develop outcome based regulations to meet the 45% reduction targets while maintaining cost competitiveness.
“We look forward to working with the federal government in supporting their ambition, as well as the governments of Alberta and British Columbia in the development of provincial frameworks.”
