Drive Carbon Neutral for 2 cents per litre
Please confirm at the checkout if you would like to offset your carbon emissions when purchasing fuel during the Promotional Period for 2 cents extra per litre.
For customers purchasing this service, the carbon credits are sufficient to offset the CO2 emissions resulting from the combustion of eligible fuel purchased (“Full Lifecyle emissions”). The number of carbon dioxide offsets per litre of eligible fuel is based on the weighted average carbon emissions factor of Eligible Fuels sold by Shell in Canada in the previous twelve months. Costs of the offsetting service during the Promotional Period are set at 2 cents per litre inclusive of GST/HST.
Shell EasyPayTM Offer
For eligible fuel transactions purchased via Shell EasyPayTM during the promotion period, Shell will pay to offset the full lifecycle carbon emissions (this includes the combustion of Eligible Fuel in the engine of your vehicle as well as the extraction of crude oil, refining, and distributing of fuels).
Carbon Neutral means that Shell has engaged in a transaction where an amount of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) (as defined above) that is associated with the raw material extraction, transport, production, distribution and use of the fuel has been removed from the atmosphere through a nature-based process or emissions saved through avoided degradation of natural ecosystems.
“CO2e (CO2 equivalent emissions)” means CO2, CH4, N2O emissions.
“Nature-Based Carbon Credit” (or ‘Carbon Credit’) means a unit of account representing one metric ton of CO2 avoided or removed from the atmosphere, generated by a Nature-Based Project.
“Nature-Based Project” means a project from which Nature-Based Carbon Credits are generated, selected by Shell (or an Affiliate of Shell), related to the protection or redevelopment of natural ecosystems such as but not limited to forests, grasslands and wetlands.
The methodology and calculations used by Shell for calculating the CO2e life cycle emissions of the Product and/or the number of Nature-Based Carbon Credits associated with a litre of Product, are based on emission factors obtained from internal studies, external consultants, public literature and national and international guidelines, standards and Product specifications, which may be subject to change from time to time.
The carbon credits only apply to purchased Eligible Fuel and no carbon offsets will be applied in respect of the other fuel already present in your tank. Any other carbon emissions resulting from your journey (for example, from electricity generation for your vehicle or from the materials to manufacture your vehicle) are not offset by the carbon credits. All offsets will be purchased and retired by Shell. Customers will not receive title to the individual credits.
Shell will buy carbon offset credits from projects that invest in the protection and replanting of natural areas. These projects include but are not limited to: the Darkwoods Forest Carbon Project in Canada, Katingan project in Indonesia and Cordillera Azul in Peru. Shell may also choose to invest in limited reforestation projects dependent on availability and suitability, at Shell’s discretion.
Shell will purchase and retire all carbon offset credits within 14 months of customers’ purchase. Shell offsets purchased may be used by Shell to calculate annual progress against the Shell Group’s Net Zero Emissions ambition.
This offer relates to fuel purchased in Canada only and may be withdrawn or amended at any time at Shell’s discretion. Subject to availability and at participating Shell service stations only.
