Shell’s first LNG refuelling station in Canada now offers a new choice for heavy-duty fleet customers looking for a long-term, cost competitive fuel that could also help lower their greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). The Calgary station is the first station to open along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway stretching from Calgary to Edmonton.
Shell has almost 50 years of expertise in LNG and has long been at the forefront of transport fuel innovation. Globally, a broad range of fuel options ranging from electrification to biofuels and more efficient traditional hydrocarbon fuels will be needed to meet growing transportation demand. In North America the abundance of natural gas makes LNG a cost competitive, complementary fuel to growing or undersupplied diesel markets.
LNG is natural gas chilled to -162 degrees Celsius. It has been safely produced and used in heating and power generation for decades. LNG is often transported across oceans and can be used as a fuel to assist powering the ships that carry the product from port to port. LNG is a welcome addition to Shell’s fuel offering.

Shell will produce LNG at the planned liquefaction plant, which will be located at the Jumping Pound natural gas facility, 30 kilometres west of Calgary. The plant’s production capacity will be 0.25mpta, however a third-party vendor will supply LNG until Jumping Pound is operational.
