Every step of the way, we’ll support you through a combination of structured training, informal on-the-job learning, regular check-ins, and inspiring mentors.
Whether you’re experiencing different areas of our business or different major projects, you’ll always have opportunities to develop and grow. Above all, we’ll help you nurture rock solid foundations for a challenging and exciting career.
Coaching and mentoring
At the outset, you will be assigned a senior supervisor to help guide your progression. They will agree a planned course of action with you and provide all the means necessary to achieve your career goals.
New roles and project assignments
You will have the opportunity to sample two or three roles, each offering a broad range of challenging responsibilities.
Formal training
To enhance your practical training, you will be enrolled onto formal learning courses specific to your area of expertise. They may include offsite or onsite learning, with accreditations at societies or qualifications, depending on your chosen discipline.
Progress checks
You will receive regular formal progress checks to ensure we are doing everything we can to support your learning journey.
End-of-year assessment
You will be given the chance to demonstrate your new skills and commercial knowledge during assessments at the end of each year, as well as a final assignment before completing the program.

What we look for

Entry requirements
- Degree - explore our Degree Matcher to discover which career paths you can follow in the Shell Graduate Program with your qualifications. When you apply, you can use the results from the Degree Matcher to indicate the career area within Shell you are most interested in.
- Year of study – To be eligible for full time employment and become a “Graduate” in the Shell Graduate Program, you should be in your final year of study or have completed your degree with less than three years of work experience.
- Academic records - there are no specific academic requirements for grades, however we do expect candidates to have a strong academic record.
Assessment Criteria
Throughout the application and assessment process, you’ll be assessed using the following three criteria, which we call the CAR criteria:
Capacity
To see how well you absorb information, analyse problems, make fact-based decisions, and propose innovative solutions.
Achievement
To assess how you get things done, for example your drive, resilience, self-confidence, and organizational skills.
Relationships
To look at how well you work in teams, communicate and respect others.

Hi, I’m Deanna. Welcome to Shell. Today, I’m going to take you through the steps for applying to the Shell Graduate Programme. Just some tips from me before we start.

Here at Shell we are searching for ways to meet the energy needs of the future, taking on challenges to help the world progress is what we have done since the day we started. You’ll find loads of stuff on the Shell website to help you find a programme suited to you, including the degree matcher which pretty much does what it says. It guides you on a match between your degree discipline with our skill pool of disciplines.

When you’re ready the next step is the application form which takes about 10 minutes to complete. If you’re on LinkedIn save time by simply pulling across your profile.

After you have submitted your online application, you’ll go through to Stage 1 where you are asked to complete four online assessments. You’ll get an email to guide you through this, but in a nutshell, these are games that measure various cognitive abilities and your working style preferences by presenting you with different challenges. You’ll need to accomplish these online assessments within 5 days of receiving them.

Applicants who are successfully shortlisted will then receive an email inviting them to progress to the On-Demand Video Interview, a self-recorded video submission.

Our Graduate Recruitment Team will then review your application and let you know if you are through to the next and final step. This is our Live Virtual session. Essentially an online interview with 2 Shell employees and a case study to discuss.
