[Interviewer]
What brings you here today?
[Claude]
This is my first scooter ride of the year. And I had to put gas in.
[Interviewer]
Tell me about the scooter.
[Claude]
I’ve been riding it for years. It’s a fun way to get around the city.
[Interviewer]
Do you have a family?
[Claude]
No. I’m a widow, we never had children. But I’m very close to my sisters.
[Interviewer]
Tell me a little bit about your husband. What was his name?
[Claude]
John. He was ill, and he died of cancer. It was quite quick.
[Interviewer]
Do you remember when you had to say goodbye?
[Claude]
Yes I do. He’d wanted to get a haircut the night before, but he was just too weak. So I said, I’ll cut your hair tomorrow. I had never cut hair. That morning he sat down, and I cut his hair a little bit. And he said, thank you for cutting my hair, and for taking care of me. Then I went to make coffee, and his heart just gave out. But this way at least we were together, and he thanked me. I gave him his last haircut.
[Interviewer]
Did John know you had this motor cycle?
[Claude]
He did. He would always say, be very careful. He encouraged me to take the course so that it would be safe. But I never gave him a ride. He never asked.
